Feng Shui of the Ancient Self
Foundations of Geomancy & Feng Shui in the Context of Shamanism
with Anthony Ashworth |
Is Feng Shui and other geomantic traditions the last vestiges of the ancient knowledge of the Shaman, or does the significant revival of these traditions herald the rebirth and salvation of shamanism?
In the light of a journey to discover the core similarities of various geomantic traditions and in an attempt to define a non-cultural or multi cultural geomantic system, Anthony Ashworth postulates this question and looks at the core archetypal foundations of the Feng Shui and Geomancy. What, if any, are the core needs and or beliefs of humanity, when applied to an environment, built or otherwise?
Ancient African Geomancy "Dogoto" to heal without medicine
China has a well-recognized geomantic tradition in Feng Shui. Most, if not all ancient cultures all have some kind of geomantic tradition. But what of the great, dark continent of Africa?
Anthony Ashworth went on a pilgrimage to his homeland Africa with the express desire to find out if the Africans, as a group of peoples, had any significant tradition in Geomancy or sacred space. He was more than surprised to find a living tradition as rich as China, Tibet or India. For this tradition, which does not have a name as such, Anthony coined the term "Dogoto" a Zulu word meaning to "Heal without medicine ".
Anthony will outline some of these rich traditions, myths, rituals and ceremonies of the African people, and draw correlations with the likes of Feng Shui. These teachings were graciously given to Anthony by Zulu Shaman Credo Mutwa, Africa's answer to the Dalai Lama and arguably Africa's most celebrated Shaman, "keeper of the knowledge, knower of the past and the future."
About Anthony Ashworth
Anthony refers to himself as an "Environmental Alchemist," working closely with his clients he brings together many aspects of the art of place making, with a deep understanding of subtle energy, healthy and healing design principles he creates the magic that is a "balanced" environment or home, he actively incorporates ancient energy systems such as Feng Shui, Vastu Shastra and principles of "Wabi Sabi" (the Zen of things) into his work. He is a qualified and experienced Feng Shui consultant/educator, Architectural and interior designer. He teaches Feng Shui, Vastu, Islamic design and The Zen of place at UTS university Sydney Australia.
I have studied and practiced many ancient Geomantic systems such as Vastu, Feng Shui and ancient Celtic systems, they are all brothers of the same clan, and although they do differ in some key aspects, they are really very similar in approach and share many key common values and ideas, I have found they can be effectively applied simultaneously to an environment.
