A Modern Approach to a Deeper Understanding of the Ancient I Ching Enigma

Those who attend this workshop will experience how the "Dao of I Ching" operates. This will enable you to experience, contextualize, understand and define situations and relationships in terms of yin and yang and the trigram archetypes.
Moreover you will learn techniques for effecting optimal change by harmonizing with and subtly altering the influences acting upon a given situation. This is a form of awareness and empowerment. I can not understate or underestimate the potential impact this can have personally, on your professional practices, especially those related to the Chinese and Japanese arts.

This workshop will cover the following areas of my original research and study over the past 30 years which contribute to modern I Ching study,

1) Transition: the rediscovered key to change and changing hexagrams.
We will penetrate into the core of the archetypal character of each trigram and explain them according to the traditional (and mysterious) notion of Heaven, Earth, and Mankind; Heaven being the top trigram line, Earth the bottom lien, and Mankind the middle line. We will learn how this adds greater meaning to the hexagrams and the concept of change.

2) Evolution: the compass setting and context for each hexagram
Evolution is expressed in six seasonal cycles. The hexagram order in each cycle defines a form of change based on binary logic. Knowing how each hexagram necessarily evolves into another, will allow you to anticipate how a situation will naturally unfold.

3) Engrams: the expanded trigrams awaiting within each hexagram
This segment will show how to identify the engrams concealed in most hexagrams, and use them to exponentially increase your ability to interpret hexagram meaning. My discovery of the engrams in the Confucian "Ten Wings" commentaries, was included in my MA thesis in 1988.

4) Innovations: Time permitting, we will learn to work with a few of my innovations that date back to 1975, and which often precipitate sudden insight: the hexagram-locating cards, which embody the inner nature of change; the eight new graphic trigram symbols, that immediately convey the dynamic energy of each hexagram; and the first coin method to be mathematically compatible with the yarrow stalk casting.

The principle of yin and yang embodied and expressed in the I Ching provides the foundation for all the Chinese practices, including astrology, five elements, feng shui, nine star ki, and the martial arts, not to mention the various forms of prognostication.

The I Ching is said to have originally developed from earlier methods of divination, and then acquired philosophical and cosmological significance. The sophisticated inner structure and system of classification that underlies the I Ching matrix is not generally known or understood. When you tap into the inner levels of the I Ching, you will deepen how you comprehend the prevailing conditions in your personal and professional life. And you will acquire new tools that bring greater clarity to your work in the Chinese arts.
